Unfortunately not. But people seem to think so, seeing how social distancing and protecting one and one’s circle is being totally ignored now by one side like it was totally ignored by the other side, a few weeks ago.

I think we’ve just gotten over the hysteria, and are ready to move forward, better informed than we previously were. I don’t watch bullshit news, so you’re view of what America looks like might be a bit different than mine. Italian covid patients were also 3x more likely to die than American patients, so that also may be why we seem a little bit more relaxed.

Imo one side was doing for the explicit purpose of defying orders designed to combat the virus. The other one is choosing to prioritize one issue above the other. Whether that’s bad or good is up to you, but I don’t think your comparison is accurate.
I also don’t agree with the false dichotomy of ‘sides’ in that case, but that’s a whole different story

Yet, more than 3 times more people died in America than in Italy. And there were 7996 new cases reported in the US today and only 177 in Italy.

My wife had a patient who made it through the screeners. Had a fever, cough, etc. Both she and the patient were wearing masks, but still.

I’m not talking about the reasoning. I understand the reasoning.
I too, believe that the live murder of George Floyd was a horrible abuse by law enforcers. Heck, my Spanish friends look at me with the sympathy you’re usually looking at Syrians(or other refugees who come from war devastated countries), after images of what happened in the US in the last week made their way around the world.
I’m talking about the epidemiological consequences, that we’ll have to deal with after ignoring the safety measures against Covid19.

Better to be dead that seem racist. Or maybe it was never a big deal to begin with. Or maybe it was a big deal, but we dealt with it properly. But 100k people died, so they didnt handle it properly. Or did they?

The US has over 5x the population of Italy. A more apt comparison would be between one of our larger states and Italy. California makes a good comparison. Similar climate, large cities, but also rural farming regions. California is a bit smaller population wise than Italy, but still has a GDP that’s $1 trillion higher, so I think they’re comprable.
Mortality rate for Covid in California is around 3.7%. Much lower than the national average, which is highly skewed because NYC screwed up so badly with their response. Their mayor’s current response to protestors is laying bare just how inept he is as a leader.
Even in my metro area, which is 3x the size of Rome, our mortality rate is around 4%. We didn’t even lock down or have a real stay at home order. My metro area has had less than 1k deaths, whereas Rome has over 33k despite having 1/3 of our population.

Yes. But Italy has a larger percentage of old people(the main target of the virus) , out of their overall population. Hell, I believe it’s one of the biggest percentage of old people in the world. So in Italy, the virus mainly sent grandma and grandpa to nice farm U pstate. But in the US, the average age of the victims is more homogeneous, so the American population is more vulnerable. Obesity and diabetes suffering patients are more likely to die from coronavirus and the US has a lot more of those.

I as well. Right now I’m for de-escalation, not to wind people up. And that’s what pissed me off with FP the start of this week; articles that served only to fuel hatred for one another.

I will say this,
I can’t begin to conceive what a African American patrol officer in Minneapolis (and really across the US) has had to deal with the past week with regards to internal turmoil and conflict as citizens mustered up absolutes of Blue Blood and Black Skin.
